Robert Ponsonby Tottenham (Robert Ponsonby Loftus until 1806) was an Irish Anglican Bishop in the first half of the 19th century.〔Burke's Peerage 1967 p1201〕 He was born the younger son〔(Clare Library )〕 of Charles Loftus, 1st Marquess of Ely in Woodstock, County Wicklow 〔(National Archives )〕 on 5 September 1773 〔(thePeerage.com )〕 and educated at Christ Church, Oxford.〔(Tottenham name )〕 He was Precentor of Cashel from 1798 until 1804〔The Morning Chronicle (London, England), Wednesday, December 5, 1804; Issue 11091〕 when he was elevated to the Episcopate〔(National Library of Ireland )〕 as Bishop of Killaloe and Kilfenora.〔"A New History of Ireland" Moody, T.M; Martin, F.X; Byrne, F.J; Cosgrove, F:Oxford, Oxford University Press, 1976 ISBN 0-19-821745-5〕 Upon his father's death, he inherited the Tottenham Green estate, changing his surname to Tottenham.〔 In 1820 he was translated〔(RDS )〕 to Ferns 〔Fryde, E.
